As an Investor’s Business Daily editorial points out, 11 of the 15 top-spending political organizations since 1989 are affiliated with Big Labor. Included in that group are the nation’s two largest teacher unions – the National Education Association and the American Federation of Teachers.
Two unions that represent many non-teaching school employees – SEIU and AFSCME – also made the cut as some of the top political spenders who are trying to influence elections (and government policy) with their checkbooks. The Kochs, meanwhile, come in at number 59 on the Center for Responsive Politics’ list of “Top-All Time Donors, 1989-2014.”
