8th GRADE TEST 1895, 1912, 1920's
COULD YOU PASS IT.
My father used to tell me stories of passing a test like this to graduate from the eight grade. He also said, after you passed you could take a teacher's exam and teach up through the 8th grade. He used to laugh because they had a boy who was seventeen years old and still hadn't passed the 8th grade proficiency test. His father wouldn't let him quit school till he passed 8th grade. Many never passed. You did not get a pass for any reason strange huh? I know it is politically incorrect to think that a child should actually learn something, but who am I to judge.
Now I know why my dad's generation was so much smarter than me.
Btw, high school was college preparatory school. Dad would say, I had to read and write Latin, 2 yrs of Spanish, 4 yrs of math, english, history, and civics. Many did not graduate. Wonder why?
