Expensive sort of, a little complicated for sure but not so much as to have many parts, but doable absolutely.....Your main worries will be the switchover from street power to internal household power. NEVER EVER RUN GENERATOR AND STREET POWER AT THE SAME TIME ON THE SAME CIRCUIT (VERY DANGEROUS), unless you go through the expense of having separate circuits....I recommend only the pros try this.
My task here is simple. Find a way back to the comforting person I used to be instead of this nose breaking SOB I have become. Never the less Robert Heinlin gives us this wisdom: "Ignorance is it's own death sentence".

Off grid power
Want to get of the grid....Do this with a 40kw generator. Outside of maintenance on the generator itself; and the noise of it((loud)lots of noise barriers needed), you won't pay another nickel for power again....I personally would keep my meter hooked up, and the basic meter fee paid just in case you do have down time. Lots of other considerations involved; for instance, if your not much of a handy man and can't do the repairs yourself then you might not want to consider this as an option.
